Full Training

Depending on the level of knowlegde the horse or horse and rider already have, the work descriptions will vary. We design an agenda  of each training session based on the horse and/or rider's ability  to move forward to the next stage of training, with a strong understanding of the foundation that has been already set.  This approach is maintained as each horse and/or rider advances from the very basics to upper-level competition.  Our philisophy of training integrates a wide variety of approaches, teaching riding concepts through different riding experiences in different riding diciplines, ultimately resulting in well rounded horses and riders capable to maximize the enjoyment and performance in the show ring.

Young Horse Training

Young and/or green horses require special dedication and  treatment. Taking the necessary time during the initial stages of training is essential for a positive life-long training attitude for the horse.  On the other hand, bad habits and fears established during the initial training stages are very hard to correct and can resurface on and off during the horses training career.  With this in mind, we have developed methods to train the young horses that maximize their successes and allows them to draw off their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.  The end result is a confident young horse, willing to try new things as his/her training progresses, with a high degree of rideability.

Feeding Program

The feeding program at Black Rice Farm includes morning and evening feedings of quality hay, with a mid-day feeding of Elk Grove Milling pellets.  Grain and supplements are to be provided by the owner but will be fed at no additional cost.

Miscelaneous

Handling for the vet and farrier is offered at no additional cost for horses in training with us, as well as other miscelaneous items like blanketing, fly sheets, fly masks and such, if owners provide those items for their horse.
